The people here seemed friendly enough. They all smiled at here and were joking around. She hadn't met anyone truly friendly since she had been taken hostage by the pirates. While some of them had fit the rumors and stereotypes that form around the word pirate, most were just given a bad name by the rest.
"Kei...suke? Very nice to meet you." She bowed slightly and watched the strong woman hit Noel. Jina chuckled a bit because she thought he probably deserved it.
After everyone was in line, she turned her attention to the Big Boss who must have had some kind of plan for them.

Only a few hours later, Jina awoke from her deep sleep and almost jumped to her feet from the scare of her dreams. The sun was coming up which helped brighten her mood, which only lasted seconds. Once she realized that what had happened the day before was reality, her shoulders seemed to sink far beyond a reasonable level.
Her heart too felt like it sank. She didn't want to be on this island another stinking minute, much less with some cannibal not-knowing-how-to-survive boy. She immediately began to grumble to herself and pulled off some coat that had been placed over her during the night. She pinched it between two of her fingers, the grime covering her own clothes, skin and fingers where it had laid.
"What...the fuck..." The dirt didn't crumble, it ran. The coat slimed over her until she flung it off completely, flipping it into the sea. It twirled in the air, splattering her just a bit more before landing in the water. She cringed heavily. "Grossssss!"
She didn't hesitate to splash herself into the water as far from the coat as possible. She couldn't contain her cursing and some very naughty words spewed from her mouth.
After she had tried to get all of the slime off of her, she moved out of the water back to where the fire had been the night before. She went to the edge of the woods and gathered some more fuel so that she could get the fire lit again. Within a few minutes, the fire was burning.
She had also grabbed a few long sticks so that small animals could be roasted instead of "fried" (placed on a hot-ass rock) and waited for Kazuhi-NO to return. She almost, ALMOST hoped that he had been killed during the night. She knew that he would probably be good for something, she just couldn't think of what he would be good for.

Jina's eyes widened as she saw the oncoming attack begin to take out some of the men who were stationed at the supply depot. Ikeda's words echoed in her ears as a bit of panic set in. She gave a quick nod to anyone who was watching.
As soon as his sentence was finished, Jina almost flew onto the back of her horse and rode towards the main camp. She kicked her heels into his sides and put him at full speed. She raced towards the camp, attempting to get out of range of any guns or other ranged weapons. Her horse was running about 25mph (~40km/h) at full speed, quickly putting distance between her and anyone who would be pursuing her.
She bent her back so that she rested up against Huī's head so that she may run even faster. Knowing that there may be more men ahead, she decided to come through a side entrance of the main camp.

Jina gathered herself. She was a bit shaken but glad that everything was okay.
After a few moments, she just nodded at Nanami. This was the life she chose so she needed to live with the danger.
"Ready."

"I am" She responded, "I realized that I don't do when when I don't have something to fight for. Needless violence seems to hurt me inside." She touched the spot where she could feel her heart beating. Having someone, or something, to fight for made her life feel so much more worthwhile.
In fact, her life felt like it finally made sense, like she belonged. They walked into the dining area together and received large portions of a fish and rice meal. The food wasn't exceptionally good here, but Jina found that adding a bit of salt she collected by straining water through a cloth purse made quite the difference.
When they sat, she offered a pinch to Haji. "Around here, it's offensive to add things to a cooks dish, but nobody notices a small pinch of salt." Her eyes seemed to twinkle. Friends were something Jina wasn't used to, but if Katsumi trusted this man (and loved him in spite of her past), then she figured it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for Haji to be a friend too.
"In my home country, we often added spices and sauces to match our own personal taste, but here it seems if you don't like something the way it's cooked, you deal with it. Isn't that strange? Japan surely is a strange country."

Jina was out in a small village somewhere along the northern coast of Japan. She wasn't really sure where, since she had just been riding her horse for fun. When she arrived, she laughed. It was a fishing village, somewhat like the one she had been taken from in China, but much much smaller.
Men with nets were hauling in the day's catch, flinging fish from one hand to another until they landed in a transport wheelbarrow. The market was opening for the day and the freshness of the fish left a raunchy, but pleasant smell in the air.
She loved fish, much more than any other meat. Fish is light, flakey and flavorful. She enjoyed a properly cooked piece of fish since salt on its own was so hard (and expensive) to come by.
She saw a young woman approach one of the stalls at the market and being in a particularly good mood with some extra Date coin in her pocket, she went over to the man running the stall. She pulled him aside as the woman looked over the fish. She dropped a few coins in his hand and told him to give her an extra of whatever she bought.
As she walked off though, the woman came running after her with a large, reddish fish flopping in her hand.

[[Ooc: better? sorry about the confusion]]
The adrenaline in her blood kept her from flinching against the strike that the man stopped before it hit. "I am not weak." The man had stopped only an inch from her head but was staring her straight in the face. Knowing this would likely be her only chance to save her life, she spoke with confidence.
"I would fight until my last breath. I may not succeed against you, but you wouldn't walk away uninjured. I do not wish to harm you, if you do not harm me."
Her fear was gone and her eyes narrowed. She was waiting to see what the man's next move would be. Jina was not a friend of violence but she would defend herself as best she could. They both knew that she would never defeat him one on one, but she would fight if she had to. Her heart pounded loudly against her chest.

Without saying a word, she picked up the dagger laying next to her. She extended it, hilt out, toward the young man. Her face shouted anger but her eyes gave away her sadness.
Once Kazuhiro had left, she sighed. She had been so strong for so long that she broke down. Within seconds, she was sobbing. She pulled her knees to her chest and cried. After a few minutes, the tears subsided and she began to pray.
She didn't have an alter, so she figured it wouldn't work. She begged for her ancestors to hear her. After another hour, it was completely dark. With no village lights and with the fire almost burnt out, the moon and stars became her light.
She looked up, staring at them. She didn't have any idea what they were, but she prayed to them too. She begged for help from anyone. She was desperate...
After a while, she had drifted off in the sand. She was snoozing heavily after a very long and hard day. She didn't hear Kazuhiro return.

Not knowing that the rock was zooming toward her head, she rushed on. At this point, she moved her feet faster, totally afraid of the man. She was almost at a full run when the rock glanced off the back of her head.
No doubt, a welt would appear where the rock struck. Happy that the rock hadn't hit her full on, she stopped in her tracks and touched the back of her head with her hand. She wasn't injured really, but she sure as hell was pissed off.
"You want to know what's WEAK?! Having such a serious lack of brains that you cannot defend yourself with your words! If you weren't strong physically, you wouldn't have any power, Pisshead."
After the words erupted from her mouth, there was a feeling of regret. She didn't want to die today, or anywhere near it. She couldn't help her anger though, and this man sure deserved it. She was as respectful as humanly possible and he called her weak for it. Then, to demonstrate his feelings, he threw a rock.
Thinking about the truth of her own words, her anger grew. Her face flushed red and her teeth clenched together. She had NEVER been this outwardly angry before and wasn't really sure how to deal with it.
"You murdered a man for no reason. Violence makes YOU weak."

"Yes, I am a swordsman for the army of the Oshu region, the Date. I was boarded here because of the storm too, and I am glad I found you. Before I take you anywhere..." She looked down at her swords and touched the demon pendant enlaid in the metal. "I need to know who you are, where you come from and why you were in Oshu."
Truthfully, she was fearful that she had saved an enemy of the Date and did not want to be reprimanded. That was something she was always terrified of, ever since she was a girl.
She had saved him and he said that he was in her debt. He didn't seem to recognize the Date armor that she wore, but she realized that it was usually citizens who did. Any who did not live in Oshu appeared not to recognize that she was a member of the Date.
Jina looked back at Hake, her eyes showed her wariness. She was skeptical but his alibi seemed to fit, so far.

She didn't say anything to...Kazuhiro. He was playing in the sand as if this situation was some kind of game. She listened to his words, taking in what he was saying. No large predators, yet. He wanted to venture into the forest at night, fine. Then the started talking about he boat.
Did he really not remember? After he had finished, she lowered her head and sighed. "The boat...it's gone."
She laid back on her elbows, her right side was facing the fire. She really needed to warm up since that light ocean breeze was now giving her chills.
"You really don't remember what happened?" Her voice was a bit angry, somewhat scornful and there was a hint of hopelessness. She sighed loudly.
"A rock..ripped a hole in the side of the ship. The deck cracked beneath my feet and most dropped into the water. I swam for two hours until I found this island..." Her voice faded. How could he not remember? How did he get here?
It was then that she began to get suspicious. His ripped off pants and golden eyes. Maybe he was some kind of cannibal that inhabited this island, waiting for people that he could eat. Yeesh...
"How did YOU get here?"

After a few more hours, the man pushed himself into a seated position. His head swayed slightly for a moment, almost as if he were dizzy. He collected himself for a minute and Jina sat facing him during this time.
One he had recovered, he began bombarding her with questions. "Where am I? I don't remember finding a house before collapsing. Did a bear bring me here? How long have I been out?"
She grinned awkwardly at the question about the bear but continued to listen until the man seemed out of breath. "You're in the home of an unbelievably kind family. I found you half-dead while I went out for a patrol, you're very lucky. You've been here for three days, though you didn't move for almost two." After she finished answering, she stayed quiet. The man was probably in a bit of shock and she didn't want to rush him.
She sat there, twiddling with the hilt of her sword. She still had her defenses up even though this man was weak. She didn't know who he was, where he came from, or what he was capable of (even with this little strength).
It was then that she asked the wife to cook for the man. She happily obliged, bringing a steaming bowl of rice and beef to him. She told Jina to let her know if the man needed anything else. Jina once again thanked them for all that they are doing.

When the man had asked for water, Jina had given him a few sips before he fell back asleep. She sighed, but he was speaking and that was good news. She was much less worried at this point.
The man slept for several more hours before she heard him speak again, "Hello?" She once again rushed over to him, moving her body into his vision.
"Yes? Yes I'm here. Do you need anything?" She pulled a few of the blankets off and put her hand near his neck. "I'm going to check your liveliness" She meant heartbeat, but since she wasn't trained in medicine, only knew it by a common name. Her mother had often done this as a child, usually to see if Jina was feeling fear, strength or weakness. His pulse felt stronger than the last time she checked, and she relaxed once more. She smiled, "You're doing well."

"A bit hot headed, aren't we?" She was careful about choosing her words. She knew not to say anything offensive, but she was having trouble controlling her tone. Angry at her situation, and angry at this man for being so useless, she didn't really have an outlet.
"You don't have to help, but don't expect the same from me when you're hungry."
She already had trapped a small animal and was cooking it on a rock over a fire. She wriggled her toes in the sand, having taken her boots off. Her clothing had dried but the leathers of her armor and boots were still a bit damp, so she had them laid next to the fire.
She looked up at the sky and sighed. She definitely was not happy, "You don't have to be rude either. I'm Jina by the way." She didn't hold out her hand, or bow, or showed any sign of contentment.

She wiped her mouth with her free hand as shame filled her. For whatever reason this man seemed to be picking on her and the words of her mother resonated in her mind. A warning to the unkindness of men. She had seen it before in her own marriage but this man that faced her seemed ruthless. If she knew a darker term than ruthless, she would certainly have used it to describe Maki.
The impact of the Guando with the ground made Jina jump a bit with fright. She was pretty rattled. The more he talked, the more nervous she got.
"I'm...not used to death." She was scared, honestly. She was afraid the man would hurt her next. Her hands shook as she tied a knot in the scarf and placed it in her torn knapsack. Attempting to be as respectful as possible, and maybe save her skin, she bowed. She bowed low, hoping that the man with foreign hair knew that the lower the bow, the more respectful she was being.
When she lifted herself after a few seconds, she hesitated but then began to walk away. Her palms were sweaty but her feet moved quickly. She wanted to get as far away from him as possible, since she wasn't exactly sure what he wanted.
Walking down the road, she passed by the dead man. People were staring and she was getting more nervous. Sweat was dripping from her hairline and she grew pale once again.

Jina's brows creased a bit. This man seemed like some kind of idiot. "The boat sunk." She sighed and walked away. Some of the trees that were lined just past the sand were swaying with the light ocean breeze. The sun was bright, just past noon.
She had been a mercenary just a few months ago, so living off of the wilderness was something she was somewhat used to. It wouldn't bother her that she probably wouldn't be sleeping in a bed tonight, but her first priority was seeing if there were other people, or a way off of the island.
She didn't wanna be stuck with this...kid.
"Well, are you gonna help me look for a way off of this shitty place?" She yelled back at him. She was so frustrated to even be here. She wasn't really intending to be offensive, but the boy seemed like all he could do was stutter and ask where he was, as if he was too stupid to realize what had happened.
"I'll walk the beach if you go in the trees. Meet back here later." She wanted to stay away from him if possible but she wasn't sure if she could survive alone. THAT'S WHY SHE WAS LOOKING FOR OTHERS.
Off she went, walking along the beach. After a couple of hours, she hadn't found anyone else. Some pieces of the ship had washed up including a small dagger. She knew that she wouldn't probably need it but that bonehead might. Hopefully he knew how to defend himself against animals, at least.
She arrived at the spot where she had left him. The sun began to set and he still wasn't back. She sighed heavily. "What have I gotten in to?"

Jina's calmness quickly changed to a wide smile and excited, bright eyes! She was genuinely happy that Haji had agreed to come with her. She didn't get to know many people in the camp since many were focused on their training, or their own missions.
Haji was so kind and respectful that it surprised her, but did not deter her excitement.
"Alright!" She giggled, somewhat nervously. "Let's head back to the camp and inform my officer of these men. He will make sure they get back safely."
She began to walk off, chattering about the Date. She was truly happy now, free from marriage and free from oppression. With the Date, she felt like she could be herself. And Haji was letting her talk, so she took advantage of the minutes they had before they reached the gate. She went on about her training and invitation. She talked about how the Big Boss had talked to her personally and her lips moved more than ever in this short time.
Once they reached the gates, she quieted and spoke with a man who was standing guard.
"Zhuo Jina and...Haji, guest. Some men a few minutes west of here attacked this man and we were able to subdue them. They are injured and need to be treated."
After she had spoken with the guard, and then her officer about the situation, she invited Haji to dine with her. He must be hungry. She thought.

She blushed, it seemed Haji wasn't used to seeing traditional Date armor. "I was invited to be a hand for the Date. I now have pledged my body to the people of Oshu." She loved to have this feeling of honor. To Haji, she may have seemed ruthless but since she had joined the Date, an overwhelming sense of pride and accomplishment had come over her.
She had never in her life done anything to be remembered and being a part of these wonderful people was something that she cherished, and would fight to protect.
"These men are not enemies of the Date, and I will have them treated at the camp." She was glad that none of the men had been mortally injured, though the one missing his fingers would not be able to fight again during his life. She felt a bit sick, violence was not something she enjoyed. She felt it was necessary to protect someone she knew. Katsumi was someone she cared about and she could see how much Haji meant to her.
She would protect what she could. "Would you like to come with me back to the camp?" Jina didn't know if he was allied with a faction, and she couldn't tell from his armor or demeanor, so she decided to be friendly and attempt to help him however she could.

The shock of hearing the frozen man speak brought Jina to her feet. She quickly began speaking back but noticed that the man had fallen back asleep. Knowing that she had to work fast, she had the family gather all of the cloth, blankets and other warming objects to her.
She stripped the man of the now-wet clothes and began to layer cloth after cloth after blanket on top of him. She panicked as she worked and hoped that the "thank you" was not the man's dying words. When there seemed sufficient coverage, almost 4 inches of warming blankets, she stopped. Finally, she asked the family for a single pillow and took the last blanket and began resting next to the man.
Hoping that she would have revived him with the heat, Jina's eyes fluttered to sleep. It must be well past dark by now and though she was scared that she wouldn't be there if the man did pass, she couldn't stop her body.
Her shallow breathing was interrupted once as she awoke to the fire collapsing on itself. It had burned fairly low and she threw a few more logs on it. After doing this, she checked the man. He was breathing. That was good. His skin had begun to get it's color back and his lips were more pink than blue. All good signs.

Jina looked at him and scowled. She said nothing. As a woman growing up in China, she learned her place early and this man was not someone she wanted to get into it with.
"Thank you for your kindness, Sir."
She knelt down and began rummaging through the corpse's pockets. Honestly, the idea that this man was dead made her sick. If what the man with the big mouth had said was right, and he was just looking for food, Jina would have given him some. She almost always put others before herself and if it meant she was a little hungry for a few days, so be it.
Her stomach churned and her face paled, but she continued searching. After finding nothing, she sighed and began wrapping the rice she could salvage into the man's facial scarf. She continued to get more nausiated and as soon as she came to her feet, she realized how truly sick she felt.
She, clutching the swiftly made rice-sack in one hand, she ran to the nearest alley and lost her lunch.
"Uhnn.." she groaned. She appreciated what the man did but senseless killing put her on edge, and apparently, under the weather.
