[OOC: Practice. A lot of practice >.>][/b]
The long-haired ronin pondered a moment, considering their options. There were three paths to take: the left wing, center hall, and the right wing. Any of them would be a blind decision, as - for all he knew - neither of them knew anything about any of the options. They were all gambles.
"Well, then, Kitana..." Satsumaru began, gesturing leftward, "To the left, we go. We'll need to address each of them at some point, so we might as well take them in an order. Left, to center, to right...if that's alright with you."
While the pleasantries of decision-making between strangers continued, his mind continued to process everything around him. The obvious questions still floated within his puzzle of a brain, such as 'who is this woman?', 'is Kitana her real name?', and 'where is she from?'
However, this was a typical case of the goal coming first, details later. When, or if, they succeeded in discovering what the ruins had to offer, there would be time to attempt to decipher the mystery of the strange woman he now held as ally once the current mystery at hand was complete.

"Yoshiyuki Satsumaru," the man replied, "No one of importance, I assure you."
True, mostly. Despite his few accomplishments and modest notoriety, he was far from famous, and in cases like these, he preferred it that way. It made things easier. Of course, he could have just given her a fake name, but he didn't want to alienate her in the long run if she proved to be someone he would have a lasting companionship with. People usually didn't respond too well to being lied to...
Giving a polite bow, the red-eyed mercenary asked in turn, "And what might your name be?"
A part of him expected her to give some false name to cover her identity. She seemed like the guarded sort...

"You, as well?" a somber voice called out.
The form of Yoshiyuki Satsumaru emerged, making itself known. A tall, lean man, the red-eyed ronin was a sight to behold. Despite his handsome face, he looked more like something out of a ghost story; his eyes red and odd-looking and his body wrapped in black armor. Most had trouble discerning whether or not his soothing and polite voice was genuine or simply a trap to lure victims into his web.
With a sigh, Satsumaru approached the woman. He had come for whatever mysteries the ruins held, not expecting anyone else to seek the same. Normally, he was a solitary man who preferred his privacy, but it seemed fate decided otherwise.
"If you don't mind, it seems that we're both here to find what treasures this corpse of a place still hides. Perhaps we should work together and split the findings fairly," the man suggested.
The long-haired warrior's calm demeanor seemed to hint that he was more at home in this eerie atmosphere than one would expect from a normal human being, for better or worse. Though there was an almost assured prize at the end of this little expedition, Satsumaru was more interested in the experience than the reward. He hoped this woman would provide more excitement than he might find going it alone...

Not to pile it on against Imagawa, but I'm a merc and...given the historical numbers (Oda outnumbered 10-to-1) Satsumaru would definitely use that to his advantage in order to get pay and respect from the upstart Oda Nobunaga. Plus, he loves an underdog Oda: 1) Tokugawa Iemasa - Oda 2) Amakusa Takehiro - Amakusa 3) Maki - Amakusa 4) Ichimura Ryunosuke - Amakusa 5) Yamabara Shou - Takeda 6) Gabriella Santos - Amakusa 7) Miyamoto Kenji - Mercenary (Mogami) 8) Morei Haji - Mercenary (Oda Training) 9) Morei Hideyasu - Hojo 10) Chosokabe Nanami - Chosokabe 11) Sanada Yukimura - Takeda 12) Yoshiyuki Satsumaru - Mercenary Add as needed. Imagawa: 1) Kyoya Naotora - Date 2) Morei Hidenori - Uesugi 3) Add as needed.

The world revolved in an endless cycle of war and peace. Some men seemed only capable of thriving in war, and found themselves not only useless, but alienated in times of peace. And vice-versa, some knew only their peaceful ways, and became nothing but bystanders if not prey during times of war. It was only the wisest men who strove to be proficient in both warfare and civil matters.
With that in mind, the mercenary known as Yoshiyuki Satsumaru was asked by the local governor of a small village in Echigo to help in the effort to rebuild what parts of their home were ravaged by war. Given that he was staying in the village's inn for a short period before he planned to carry on, it wasn't too inconvenient for him to agree to participate. After all, if he wasn't aiding in the recovery effort, he'd simply be sitting around with nothing else to occupy his mind...
"Yoshiyuki-sama!" the village chief called out as he saw the ebon warrior approach the village's center, "We are honored to receive your assistance!"
"No need for formality," Satsumaru replied plainly, "I'm no lord."
A little awkwardly, the chief forced his smile to remain on his face before noting, "Of course, of course...how modest of you. Still, we are quite honored to have you with us. As you can see, sir, a good deal of our homes and buildings have seen some damage. Some have suffered from the simple movement of troops in the area shaking their weak foundations, while others were burned to some degree. We're not entirely prepared for this sort of thing, so any assistance you could give would be greatly appreciated!"
Satsumaru held his reply, instead choosing to scan the area with his crimson eyes as his analytical mind picked apart what they took in. As the elder had said, many of the buildings were more or less thrown together. The heavy movement of armed soldiers and horses caused some structural damage to some of the lighter houses, while some had blackened walls and open roofs from flame.
"This is a small village, so we won't have a vast number of workers to draw from. However, that won't be necessary. Five men will be sufficient to repair the roofing of these homes, one man per house. Ten men will see to the walls themselves, two per home. Any man who is capable of woodworking should gather here and set up what surfaces they can muster to work on. They can provide the supports and miscellaneous items we may need crafted as we work," the long-haired mercenary commanded calmly.
Gesturing toward a nearby gathering of women, he noted, "Women are just as capable as men. I would like six to gather straw for the roofing, six to gather mud and earthen clay for repairs, and four to gather water. We will adjust our priorities and strengths as we progress. If anyone is unsure of what they should be doing at any time, come see me."
"Any questions?" Satsumaru asked, raising an eyebrow. The chief seemed stunned, and no words formed. The rest of the villagers remained quiet. "Excellent."
And without another word, the enigmatic mercenary removed his black armor and rolled his sleeves up, preparing to get to work. For the most part, he oversaw progress as each man and woman saw to their task. When certain areas required additional help, he would jump right in to see it done himself. Though silent in demeanor, he was fairly polite as a taskmaster, and the villagers seemed genuinely thankful for his help.
In fact, the work went forward rather quickly. Mud and stone was applied to shoddy walls, fresh straw was bundled and arranged to create stronger roofing, and the housing was shaping up to be better than it was before it was damaged.
After everything was said and done, the village was as good as new. Families had sturdy homes and all signs of war had been cleansed from the quaint little village. The villagers got together to offer a gift to Satsumaru for his assistance, but when they visited his room at the inn, they realized he had already taken to the road to head South. He had no goodbyes for them, nor did he require any thanks or rewards...

Thanks, guys! Yeah, I think I'll open an RP somewhere today to see if anyone wants to jump in. I'd like to get in with a group at some point, whether a daimyo wants to recruit/hire me, or a merc group wants me in. And yep, Madara. I used him on another site, and he just fits my PC's look and part of his persona. Kinda the "dark lord" character, but not really EVIL. He's just as capable of mercy and kindness, he's just morally ambiguous and manipulative

Hey, everyone. I'm - gasp! - new here, so I wanted to post one of these to say an official hi to everyone. I've got the "confused new guy" jitters, so hopefully, putting myself out here and saying hey will let people who have nothing better to do know that I'm up for RP and whatnot to get eased into the game

Name: Yoshiyuki Satsumaru Faction: Mercenary Ethnicity: Japanese Age: 23 (Born 1537) Gender: Male Height: 5'10" Weight: 155 lbs. Eye Color: Red Hair Color: Black OOC Rank: Conscript IC Rank: Mercenary Captain Appearance: Satsumaru is a tall and lean man, not necessarily intimidating at first glance. His frame is fairly muscular, however. He has long, free-flowing black hair that almost matches his jet black armor. Even outside of battle, without his armor, his casual dress is usually black in color. His skin tone is somewhat pale, creating a stark contrast to his oddly reddish eye color. Despite his strange and grim appearance, Satsumaru is known to be a remarkably attractive young man. Personality: The red-eyed ronin is known, beyond all things, as being strangely quiet and almost unnervingly calm at all times. Even in the middle of a crisis or catastrophe, Satsumaru is unshakably calm. And despite his career as a warrior and commander-for-hire, he is far from violent in personality. When approached, the young captain is known to be very polite and easy-going. Though a skilled combatant in his own right, Satsumaru is more talented as a strategist and commander. He has many nicknames, though the more popular ones are "the Black Wind" and "Devil Sage". History: Little is known about his past, but there are some rumors that persist about his origin. They state that he is originally from a modest clan of honorable samurai hailing from Kyushu. His father was supposedly a retainer of the Shimazu clan, until a rival retainer implicated him in a plot of treason. Forced to commit seppuku, his father was lost, and his mother followed soon after. Rumors suggest a family loyal to Satsumaru's family smuggled him out of Kyushu to the East in order to give him a new life. After that, his name doesn't appear again until he gained some notoriety for participating in the Second Battle of Kawanakajima. Reports say that he was a part of the Takeda force, and that his small band was part of the relief force that joined Asahiyama fortress defenses to repel the Uesugi attackers several times. Some hearsay emerged, granting note to Satsumaru's skill, but no specifics were given. Some who were with him claim that he foresaw the stalemate long in advance, and withdrew after the first month of inaction. Indeed, many months later, both forces simply withdrew from the battle. The fact that Takeda Shingen purchased Satsumaru's services at the onset of a Third Battle of Kawanakajima lends these rumors of his competence some credibility. The then-twenty-year-old Satsumaru was said to have helped the Takeda occupy Katsurayama fortress. However, after that event, the battle waned and Shingen withdrew after the Uesugi led a force from Zenkoji to assault them. Now, with warfare seemingly spreading across the entirety of Japan, Satsumaru hopes to carry on and seize what he can from the chaos that threatens to engulf the land. Does he plan to conquer in his own name? Does he seek fame and glory as a mercenary? Only Satsumaru himself knows for sure...
