Name: Yoshiyuki Satsumaru
Faction: Mercenary
Ethnicity: Japanese
Age: 23 (Born 1537)
Gender: Male
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 155 lbs.
Eye Color: Red
Hair Color: Black
OOC Rank: Conscript
IC Rank: Mercenary Captain
Appearance: Satsumaru is a tall and lean man, not necessarily intimidating at first glance. His frame is fairly muscular, however. He has long, free-flowing black hair that almost matches his jet black armor. Even outside of battle, without his armor, his casual dress is usually black in color. His skin tone is somewhat pale, creating a stark contrast to his oddly reddish eye color. Despite his strange and grim appearance, Satsumaru is known to be a remarkably attractive young man.
Personality: The red-eyed ronin is known, beyond all things, as being strangely quiet and almost unnervingly calm at all times. Even in the middle of a crisis or catastrophe, Satsumaru is unshakably calm. And despite his career as a warrior and commander-for-hire, he is far from violent in personality. When approached, the young captain is known to be very polite and easy-going.
Though a skilled combatant in his own right, Satsumaru is more talented as a strategist and commander. He has many nicknames, though the more popular ones are "the Black Wind" and "Devil Sage".
History: Little is known about his past, but there are some rumors that persist about his origin. They state that he is originally from a modest clan of honorable samurai hailing from Kyushu. His father was supposedly a retainer of the Shimazu clan, until a rival retainer implicated him in a plot of treason. Forced to commit seppuku, his father was lost, and his mother followed soon after. Rumors suggest a family loyal to Satsumaru's family smuggled him out of Kyushu to the East in order to give him a new life.
After that, his name doesn't appear again until he gained some notoriety for participating in the Second Battle of Kawanakajima. Reports say that he was a part of the Takeda force, and that his small band was part of the relief force that joined Asahiyama fortress defenses to repel the Uesugi attackers several times. Some hearsay emerged, granting note to Satsumaru's skill, but no specifics were given. Some who were with him claim that he foresaw the stalemate long in advance, and withdrew after the first month of inaction. Indeed, many months later, both forces simply withdrew from the battle.
The fact that Takeda Shingen purchased Satsumaru's services at the onset of a Third Battle of Kawanakajima lends these rumors of his competence some credibility. The then-twenty-year-old Satsumaru was said to have helped the Takeda occupy Katsurayama fortress. However, after that event, the battle waned and Shingen withdrew after the Uesugi led a force from Zenkoji to assault them.
Now, with warfare seemingly spreading across the entirety of Japan, Satsumaru hopes to carry on and seize what he can from the chaos that threatens to engulf the land. Does he plan to conquer in his own name? Does he seek fame and glory as a mercenary? Only Satsumaru himself knows for sure...
