Not his best luck, but then again, his luck seemed to fluctuate throughout this dungeon trek so far. Kenji took his blows well, shifting to the defense against the hostile Rider and looking for an opening through which he could snap kick his enemy in the jaw, and if successful, follow through by shoulder tackling him into the wall or to the floor.

"Your home? I see... It sounds as if you'd rather leave Sagami," observed Kenji as the conversation continued. "In any case, it's nice to meet you, Morei-san. You're welcome to sit with me, unless you'd rather continue standing."
Regardless of the man's choice, he waited for him to choose and adjust himself, then picked up the chat. "Let's say I'm right about you wanting to get out. There's plenty of interesting provinces you could try visiting, or you could even wander around and see what the country has to offer."

(( Edit: I admittedly jumped the gun a bit and posted before Tak, but only because no one's interacted with eachother directly yet, though the opportunity has apparently arrived. If Kenshin or Tak would rather I withdraw my post for now, let me know and I'll do so. ))
Kenji smelled the smoke brewing down below. He didn't need to look to figure out that they were trying to burn him to ashes, thinking he was trapped. Fighting any further on this roof would be a horrible idea, so it was high time he got out of here. After all, he'd occupied this group long enough, and with this building slowly flaming up, it ought to serve as a brilliant beacon for villagers to get the hell to safety.
For his next opponent, Kenji first stabbed him through the chest with Yawarakai-Te, then yanked his blade out and booted the man's body hard into his living comrades, hoping that should buy him the time he needs. Afterward, he turned, sheathing his masterwork katana, and sprinted toward one end of the roof, intending to leap and either land on or catch hold of the nearest building's rooftop.

(( Note: Constitution total is now 35 for the next five posts, including this one. Dat glorious fortitude. ))
Kenji had the upper hand, and he was not about to lose it doing something risky. His opponent was dazed, unarmed, and not as zealous as before. Instead of opting for anything fancy, he merely stepped in and threw a hard straight fist for the Rider's face. If successful, he advanced and threw a series of punches into the Rider's form, punishing him as hard and fast as he could whilst he still bore the advantage.

"Well, this fight is going wonderfully..." mused Kenji in his subconscious, rolling over to see the advancing Rider. In the face of exceptionally possible death, he refused to waver or flinch, for he had a family to return to, people to protect. This skeletal bastard wasn't about to stop him from finishing this dungeon alive just because it was either the better fighter, or had gotten lucky.
Howling a war cry, Kenji shoved himself forcefully to his feet, Yawarakai-Te in hand, and made to bat aside the Rider's sword, punching him in the face if successful, and further backing off to consume an onigiri.

By this point, Kenji wasn't particularly fond of the foreigner's attitude. He understood that people acted the way they did for one reason or another, but he couldn't help but pin this man for being uncomfortably pompous, and without any reason to be. His constant failing to deflect questions, disregarding the idea of answering them, and taking the entire exchange like it were some insignificant every day occurrence.
They randomly walked in on a woman in the forest. That was hardly routine.
Resigning himself to ignoring the man for now, he turned fully toward the tattooed lady and nodded, beginning, "I'm passing through the wood on my way elsewhere. I happened to hear the roar of a waterfall while walking, and decided to have a look and a break. After that, well, here I am."

That was a new pain to Kenji, and were he not flowing with adrenaline, he might've emitted a yelp. As it stood, he gritted his teeth and grunted as he found his forearm pinned by his own acquired sword. The rider was approaching, ready to impale his midsection, which would spell the end for the merc if he let it happen. He had a thought, though.
His nodachi had a cutting ability unparalleled by any normal sword he'd ever seen or owned.
...Removing it from the wall ought to be an easy task.
Thus did Kenji grip the blunt side of his nodachi and draw it out from both the wall and his forearm, letting the injured limb hang at his side to avoid further damage. He then dropped the blade and strafed away from his spot at the wall, drawing Yawarakai-Te in his good hand to defend himself should the rider attack before he could make it to a safe spot. If the whip showed itself, he would keep his weapon away from its coils, but if the sword was his enemy, he would parry and counter with strong strikes.

Kenji felt a crack across his back, wincing in pain. Whips were never good news, and as he turned to face his unseated opponent, he saw that the whip shifted into a sword. Now that was intriguing... And useful. If Kenji had any great feelings of envy, which he tended not to, they would be drawn towards that multifunctional weapon.
More to the point, he was ready for combat, back attack aside. Kenji turned his nodachi on the rider and stepped forth to meet his advance, lunging into a long thrust at the skeleton's skull. If successful, he would continue and stab at him wherever he could; if he failed, he would withdraw to the defense. If at any time the rider attempted to use the whip to disarm Kenji or yank him, he would quickly release the nodachi to avoid being caught in a bad spot.

Kenji chuckled, nodding at the stranger's response. "Of course it doesn't. Still, if something is the matter, you should consider either committing to solving the problem as soon as possible, or else learning how to better conceal your discomfort." He paused, adjusting his sitting posture for comfort.
"My name is Miyamoto Kenji," he started again, "I'm passing through Sagami, but I thought to take a rest and enjoy the atmosphere for a while. What about you?"

At a glance, the man seemed to keep his voice in check, yet seemed at least mildly suspicious, as if he expected Kenji to have an ulterior motive in his calling him over. That made some sense, he surmised, though it ultimately didn't bother the merc.
"Forgive me, but I couldn't help noticing your uncomfortable expression. Is something the matter?"

(( OOC: Kit's still not quite feeling well and asked if I wanted to post before her. Let's resume post order when she posts. ))
Now Kenji was apparently being dragged into the limelight. Seemed like the foreigner was trying to look good before their mutual new acquaintance. He'd seen this kind of play before, and it was distasteful to him. That said, the merc kept his usual, pleasant cool head, chuckling in response to the man's words.
"I believe the lady wasn't referring to me. We're both intruders here, yet she seems more interested in you," he explaned his viewpoint, wondering how accurate it was. If nothing else, it might give the girl some talking space. "On that note, I'm curious. Which land do you come from?"

It was disappointing that Odawara Castle was not open to visitors, as Kenji found out during his previous visit to Sagami. He wondered if that would ever change, for from the distance he viewed it, Odawara seemed as closed off and impregnable as ever. No, he decided not to take a closer look, sitting down by the road as the occasional traveler or patrol passed along. For the moment, he'd take a break from his trek and take in the sounds and sights.
From the direction of Odawara, he saw a slender, athletic-looking man with curiously white hair and uncommon blue eyes. He seemed to be explicitly walking away from the mighty castle behind him, which made Kenji wonder: What was his purpose in the lands of the Hojo if he did not look like he wished to be in them at all?
"What the hell, I could use some conversation, and maybe he could as well," thought the shugyosha.
So he waved at the oncoming stranger, calling out, "Excuse me, you over there!" Should the man look over in Kenji's direction, he would continue, "Yes, you! Do you have a few minutes?"

After registering the composition of the chariot and its cloaked rider, Kenji ducked back behind the wall and flattened against it. He hefted his nodachi and examined it in front of him, pondering if it could be of use here... It's not like he didn't have a choice at this point; given the proximity of his enemy and the lack of an escape route, it was fight or be run down.
Breathing out and steeling himself for renewed battle, he waited till he heard the rider get closer, then shoved his nodachi out right in its path, intent on either cutting it down as it came or stabbing whatever he could reach. Taking out those horses would be especially wonderful, considering they were a mounted combatant's best friends.
(( Summary: Hide behind wall, use nodachi from safe cover to either hamstring vehicle or cut whatever he could reach. ))

Kenji would relieve the chest of its item before cautiously returning to the bend, poking his head around the side. If nothing was there, he would listen carefully and try to discern from which direction the sound came from. If something was there, he'd flatten himself back against the wall and listen quietly.

Kenji didn't need to look behind him, for he heard the telltale sounds of wall traps going off, but he glanced back anyway, if for only a second. Quickly, he set off at a dash along the path, and if any traps came close to him, whether from the rear or the fore, or even the sides, he would attempt to sunder them with his newfound nodachi.

Kenji probably wasn't going to get used to being shunted around this castle. That aside, he decided to test out his newfound goods for the time being, strapping the chestplate on over his haori and hefting the nodachi's flat against his shoulder. These should prove useful.
(( Str now gains +12 when attacking with Dark Warrior's Nodachi. Dex total is now 25, Con total is now 30. All other stats are the same. Locking in. ))
Well-armed and ready to rock some more, beating regardless, Kenji set off on the left path of the maze.

Kenji breathed out the intense fires burning in his chest, calming himself, before chuckling about his difficult battle and well-earned victory. He was satisfied, even if he had been sucker punched by that poisonous feeling. He collected his sheathes to settle them back in his sash, put his swords away, and also acquired the knight's nodachi and breastplate. He could certainly find use for these. Finally, he returned to the daimyo's chest and made to leave with it.
Though he was a bit cut-up and scraped, not to mention battered around, Kenji felt that he could continue on, this time intending to venture down the right wing.

Well, Kenji had the bandits' attention, and god knows how many would be funnelling up those stairs. At least this might help save some peoples' lives, and also gave him the perfect venue for purging their numbers. Setting to his task, and keeping a weather ear on any developments happening around him on the roof, the merc started fighting and slaying the bandits at the entrance one by one, maintaining a mostly offensive mindset but making sure to parry and counter any attacks that got through his assault.

As the knight batted his swords away, Kenji felt the terrible sensation in his gut dissipate. He was good to go again! With his strength back, he spun aside the knight's dark fist and pulled both katanas around, intent on using them both as one to carve through his foe's spaulders, or even his dark arm if that was the only available option.

His stomach still nauseating and bothering him, not to mention bruised by this point, Kenji was, needless to say, a bit preoccupied and unable to fully cancel his fall. He did manage to roll in the air and catch himself on his hands (and sword hilts, considering) to avoid slamming into the floor, though he still felt some of the impact. He forced himself to a stand and turned to face the knight, settling into a defensive stance as he redrew his masterwork katana, once more dual-wielding. His intent was to counter any attack the knight threw at him.

Blow after blow rained down into his already aching and nauseated stomach, and it was a miracle worthy of the gods that Kenji did not vomit. He maintained his iron will and refused to bend before the weakening knight, waiting for the right opportunity to avoid the knight's fists and swing hard for its spaulders.

Quickly, Kenji found himself becoming surrounded. Not his best choice, but given he wasn't dead yet, or even injured, it could be argued that it wasn't a horrible idea, either. Looking for an escape route, he saw that there was a staircase past a nearby building's open doorway. If he got to higher ground, he might be able to funnel the bandits up the stairs, into the artificial chokepoint provided by both the stairs and the doorway above, and cleave them as they came. In the worst case scenario, he could indulge in some parkour to hightail it away.
No time to intimately ponder his plan, though. Kenji took off toward that building, cutting asunder anyone in his path or range. Provided he made it in safely, he hauled ass up the stairs and made for the roof, or the highest floor available, before situating himself for some classic bandit-slaying action.

Kenji found himself on the ground again, and this time, feeling horrible. He managed to suppress his sudden need to hurl, but found that the knight was approaching, likely intent on beating him into a fine paste for all the agony he'd put it through. There was no time to let this sickness keep him down, and mustering all the will and fortitude he could, the merc forced himself to roll out of the way of his enemy's fist, then swing with his sword at whatever body part he could reach. Preferably the half-removed breastplate.
