Hidenori blinked, confused by her reaction, and tilted his head as he spoke.
"Did... Did I do something wrong?"
He was dense, not realizing how his statement could've made her uncomfortable in the least. If Haji and her were a thing, and if he was Haji's brother, that made Katsumi his sister-in-law in a way? Right?
Deciding not to press the matter further, he would look away on the other side of the carriage, wondering what Kenshin would do if he brought a stranger into their camp.

"Right... thank you."
Hidenori walked with Yukimura back to their campsite, lost in thought. He needed to speak to Kenshin and figure out just why the two lords were fighting one another. Countless lives were spilled, and for what?
He began to help Yukimura set up the fire pit, following what his partner was doing. He wondered how they would start the fire, but they could worry about that later. Hidenori began to set up some of the wood he had brought from the Uesugi ship, setting it up at the base of the once-tree where the previous shelter once stood. It looked as though they had enough wood to build a sizeable shelter where they wouldn't be too cramped.
"Do you think anyone's noticed you're missing?"
It was a random question, but he wondered if they could expect help at all. In Hidenori's case, he was Kenshin's adopted son, but he was also used to being gone for long periods of time. He wasn't sure of word of the shipwreck would get back to the Uesugi whatsoever.

"Huh..? What the hell?!"
Hidenori would jump up, startled, as an entire enemy force just appeared out of nowhere! With the Imagawa being drunk and in a disarray, it was up to the Uesugi's and Date's small forces to deal with this.
"Damn it... we only came here for peace talks... Noel! We have more important things to deal with right now!"
Hidenori drew his zanbato, dashing forward and swinging it in a wide arc at any approaching Oda soldiers. The Oda... those bastards... Hidenori hated them, but now wasn't the time to let revenge get the best of him. They were heavily outnumbered, and the surprise attack hurt them further.
"Mikhael! What do you think we should do?!" He would call back, parrying whatever blows came his way before swinging his zanbato again.

"Haji..."
Hidenori looked down at the river, wondering what his brother had grown up to be like. Yukimura made him sound weak in a way, but also that he was willing to grow much stronger to protect what he believed in. Hidenori had ran away his entire life, and now that he was being put in his place by a Takeda soldier of all people... Maybe he had a lot of changes to make for himself.
"You're right, Yukimura-san. Or perhaps... Perhaps I should swing my zanbato with more purpose, instead of just being scared."
He reached down, grabbing another fish without much problem this time, now that he was more serious about things. Tossing it in the bucket, he noticed it was full now.
"Shall we head back?"

Hidenori would lay on the ground in pain from the unnecessary wiener bumping, as well as Noel landing right on top of him. He groaned, looking up and seeing they were surrounded by monsters... who then proceeded to stop the crap out of them.
"ARGH! WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?! WE JUST WANT YOUR TREASURE! LEAVE US ALONE!"
Hidenori would swing his zanbato around wildly, trying to trip up the enemies and hopefully stop their assault. Most he could do with Noel on top of him.

Hidenori looked at Yukimura in shock as he was grabbed, not expecting the speech that followed. The words hit him, and yet there was a certain truth to them. So he said these same words to Haji too, huh? A certain relief crossed over the man as he realized that he and his brother were similar, and that Haji couldn't take a life as if it were nothing.
The man fell back as Yukimura let him go, and he stood there, pondering everything. Haji had Katsumi, but what really drove Hidenori to get stronger? Revenge wasn't the powerful motivator that he hoped it was, but... he did have someone important to him, although not in the same sense.
"Well... Kenshin raised me like his own... I want to protect him to repay him for everything he's done."
An adopted son of the warlord of Echigo, this probably made Hidenori seem like more of a target to Yukimura, but he felt like this man wouldn't cut him down because of that, not after this.
"It's funny... being lectured by a Takeda soldier. I never saw that coming."

Haji... was happy. And he was in love. Hidenori felt so relieved hearing Yukimura say that. His little brother had gained something so special in a world so broken, and found happiness in a land that threatened to take it away. He hoped that his brother would always hold onto it, and if Yukimura was right... Haji was only getting stronger, all for Katsumi's sake.
"I'm... I'm very glad to hear that. Thank you, Yukimura-san."
He usually wasn't one to put honorifics in place, but even as a Takeda soldier, Hidenori wanted to show his respects. He paused for a moment when Yukimura spoke of reunion, unsure of how to react to that.
"It'd be nice... but I don't know if I'm fit to face him. I showed great weakness fifteen years ago... and if there's anything I've learned, it's that I'm still weak."
The zanbato was his way of attempting to hide that weakness with physical strength. But what use was a blade without the resolve to wield it?
"Someday, perhaps..."

Hidenori looked at Yukimura as he spoke. He had heard from Uesugi soldiers who had fought at Kawanakajima that the Takeda were a bunch of terrible people, and that the Uesugi fought to rid the world of them so that we'd all live in a better place. Kenshin himself never said such things, although he held a bitter rivalry with Shingen anyway. He wanted Hidenori to find his own answers, and seeing this man before him...
"Yeah, let's catch as many as we can."
He wasn't being his usual jokester self for now. It felt like everything the man knew was turning around in this moment. Old Uesugi veterans had lied to him. Or maybe they just wanted to fuel the fire of the youth in order to keep them motivated for the next skirmish between the two forces.
Hidenori waited in the river, standing there patiently. Every time a fish came by, he would reach down and grab at it, attempting to take hold of it. Most of his attempts would fail, but he'd be able to snag a fish now and then and dump it in the basket with the ones Yukimura had grabbed. It was an unorthodox way of fishing MULAN but little did he know that Haji did the same exact thing... with more success, that is.
"You said it... I don't know if I could put my heart into that battle."
The man sighed as he continued trying to catch more fish.
"So... you said you met Haji? How is he...?"

Hidenori grimaced at seeing the dried seaweed. Yuck. But he took a moment to ponder on what Yukimura said. It had been true that they were fighting because they had been following orders, but the Uesugi soldier had to wonder if it was the right thing to do? He owed Kenshin his life, and yet, he was starting to feel like if he ever met Yukimura on a battlefield, he wouldn't want to cross swords with him. He seemed... okay. The Uesugi were taught that the Takeda were the enemy, and yet... Yukimura could've killed him by now, but didn't. Why?
"I wonder if it really has to be that way..."
With a shrug, he placed his weapon on his shoulders again.
"I think I'll give you a hand with the fishing. Least I could do for you not taking my head off earlier."

Hidenori was going to question why he had a bag of peanuts in his pocket before he got his own peanuts kicked in, and he was thrown onto poor Noel. Angrily, the tall man would roll off and swing his zanbato in front of him, planning on cleaving the undead soldier straight through!
"Morei Hidenori! Nice to meet you, Noerru!"

"BOOYAH!"
Hidenori would shout after his massive success! From here, he would turn around to see Noel in danger, and would thrust his zanbato forward, planning on cleaving the head off of not only the undead to Noel's left, but also the one who was kicking his nuts!
"Forget about Uesugi and Date! For now, we gotta get through this! Turd face!"

"YEAH WELL YOU'RE THE... OW! OW! HEY! OW! STOP THAT! OW! THE HELL!"
Hidenori was being jabbed at from every side by undead dudes' swords! And it hurt! He tried to back away, but no matter which direction he went in, there was another undead jabbing him even harder! Angrily, he lifted up his zanbato, trying to parry some of the swords as he swung it around him, trying to hit the enemies on his side.

Hidenori was continuing to rave on, stopping only when Katsumi grabbed onto him. Realizing how much of a scene he was causing, the tall man took a deep breath, relaxing a bit.
"I... sorry, Katsu-neechan."
He grinned smugly. He wondered how she would react to that. Seeing as she and Haji were close, just maybe calling her sister like that wasn't out of the question. Of course, he wasn't completely sure they were together, but it was his gut feeling they had something special.
The driver of the carriage was angry, but calmed down upon seeing coin. Even a guy like Hidenori was worth dealing with if he got paid. He took Katsumi's offer, shrugging and motioning for them to hop in. "Where to?"
Hidenori climbed into the carriage happily, assuming Katsumi would to.
"We'd like to go to the Uesugi camp, if that's alright with you, pal."
The guy gave Hidenori a weird look, but obliged. If Katsumi got in too, the carriage would begin to move and they'd be on their way.

Hidenori sat around in the Imagawa Armory with the Uesugi relief force that had accompanied him here to Okehazama. He was sent here on orders from Kenshin in order to form a peaceful alliance with the Imagawa as to avoid war with the strongest force in Japan. That said, he wasn't sure if anything he was saying had an impact. He was sent to wait around the Armory, rather than to wait in their main camp.
He was waiting for an audience with Lord Imagawa Yoshimoto, who seemed far too busy to deal with a lowly soldier such as Hidenori. Despite being the adopted son of Kenshin, they didn't even shoot the man a second glance. And so he waited.
"Lord Kenshin... I sure hope you know what you're doing..."
His zanbato rested up against his shoulder as he looked around. It seemed the Date were here too. Something felt strange in the air, but he couldn't put his finger on it.

Hidenori made several trips back and forth, bringing wood to the camp. He did this until he felt they had sufficient lumber, though there wasn't much left to salvage when he was finally done.
Coming back and finding a crate at the base, he figured Yukimura was also gathering supplies. With this in mind, he started to fix what he did before, only this time the shelter would be built on the ground level. Mostly because there wasn't a good tree in sight, and also because it was much simpler. He had no idea how the Takeda soldier got all of that into the tree himself.
"I'm not one to think much, but I'm wondering why we're fighting anyway..."

"Similar features?"
Hidenori blinked, looking at her. She was trying to see if he looked similar to Haji? Hidenori would have no idea how similar he looked, seeing as he hadn't seen his brother since he was two years old. All he knew about Haji was the white hair and the blue eyes.
"Well, if Haji is anything like myself, he's bound to be devilishly handsome! Hahahaha!"
He continued to walk with a hearty laugh. While Haji was more reserved and not so vain, Hidenori was aware of how handsome he was and he constantly flaunted it. His looks made up for his lack of brains, though he considered himself to be quite intelligent too. (Shhh. Let's not reveal the truth to him.)
"Huh? A carriage? HEY! WE NEED A RIDE!"
Hidenori shouted out at the carriage, but the guy didn't seem to stop at all. Angry with how rude this guy was, Hidenori lifted his zanbato off of his back, chucking it forward as hard as it could. It would go flying, landing directly in front of the carriage and the horse, and they would come to an abrupt stop, the guy looking at Hidenori with wide eyes. "THE HELL?"
"I TOLD YOU TO STOP, YOU RUDE JERK!"
Hidenori ran up, shaking his fist as he went to collect his weapon, resheathing it. He wasn't aware of how much of a scene he was causing, flinging that weapon every direction he could.

Hidenori looked at Katsumi, realizing how much of a toll her situation must've taken on her. Judging from her state alone, she probably had many more demons than he himself had, and he couldn't even fathom what had happened in her life. He went up to her, placing a hand on her shoulder before stepping up to undergo Kanetsugu's trial.
He gulped, seeing what the people before him had to deal with, but he steeled his nerves regardless. He had something to prove to Kenshin, and to himself. He was going to do his absolute best to make it through this. He drew his zanbato from its sheathe and tossed the large scabbard aside, taking a deep breath.
"Alright, here goes..."
He took off in a sprint towards Kanetsugu, planning to cover as much ground as he possibly could before the talismans took effect. Before he knew what was going on, he felt a terrible weight on his shoulders, slamming into the ground. He gritted his teeth, trying to push himself up, the weight really heavy on his entire body. He felt like he was made of lead, and he started to sweat.
"Argh... I'm not... going to..."
He started to push himself up to his feet, utilizing all of the strength he could possibly muster, getting up enough to use his sword as a support. Panting heavily and grunting from the pain, he started to trek forward, slowly, painfully, supporting himself from falling with the zanbato.
"I'm not... going to fail..."
And then came the second wave of energy, and Hidenori felt himself being pushed back. With a shout, he stabbed his zanbato deep into the ground to keep himself from being blown away. His feet skidded along the ground slowly as he found himself being pushed back. The force against his body was unbearable, it felt like it would break him for resisting it, but he knew he had to endure this force. Even if it broke him, Hidenori knew he had to pass this test. He didn't want all the years that Kenshin spent on him to be a waste. He couldn't let that happen. And if he couldn't pass this, how could he ever face his brother?
Even though it felt like knives tearing away at him, Hidenori continued to push forward, and somehow, he found himself pressing on. He found himself moving towards Kanetsugu. Somehow, he was beating this.
And then came the crushing, and Hidenori yelled, falling to the ground as it felt like his body was being compressed. His zanbato slipped out of his grasp as he curled up in a ball on the ground, screaming. He wanted it to stop, he wanted it to go away. He just wanted it to end, but he knew he couldn't stop. Groaning in pain, Hidenori began to crawl along the ground to Kanetsugu, every second felt like an agonizing death, but the sooner he made it through, the sooner this would be over. That was what he felt. And he continued along, grabbing onto the snow-covered ground as he crawled, pulling his body forward as much as he could, shutting his eyes from the pain.
He didn't know how long he had been enduring that pain, but he soon felt all of the weight just suddenly dissipate. Panting heavily, he opened his eyes to find that he had passed the line on the ground that Kanetsugu had drawn.
"I... I... I did it...!!!"
Tiredly, Hidenori pushed himself up to his feet, panting and sweating despite the cold, and he lifted his arms in victory. "I did it, Kenshin!" He turned around to look at Katsumi, "I did it Kaaaaa... Hiro! Haha! WOOO!"
He cheered, running along to grab his zanbato before waiting on the sidelines.

"Huh... the Takeda don't seem so bad..."
Hidenori mused to himself as he made his way back to his own shipwreck, weapon on his shoulders. If Yukimura's old treehouse was made of his old ship's wood, then Hidenori would compensate for the damage he caused by getting some wood from his own ship. He may have been dumb, but he was a man of honor nonetheless, or so he liked to think.
Finally arriving at the shore where he crash landed, Hidenori made his way to the ship itself, examining it for a moment. It was banged up pretty badly, but parts of it looked salvageable. If he combined it with whatever Yukimura had left, he was hoping there could be a sizeable shelter built. Placing his zanbato into a holster on his back, the tall man went to work, starting to gather wood.
"I wonder if I should tell Kenshin that a Takeda soldier helped me out..."

"Now, I know I'm not the smartest, but..."
There would be no redeeming moment of intellectualism whatsoever. Hidenori would charge in from the side, swinging his zanbato over his head before gripping it in both hands, ready to strike down at Naotora whenever he got within striking distance. That ball and chain was looking awfully scary up close.

"AHHH! YOU SON OF A--" Hidenori would be interrupted by the floor coming up to high five him in the face! Only to have Noel crash land right on top of him! Only to have the zombies start to kick him while he was down! At least the sword hilt didn't hit him though! Haha!
Angrily, Hidenori would swing his zanbato in a horizontal arc low across the ground in front of him, trying to cut down all of the undead. Then he would push Noel off of him for being even more of an idiot than him!
"ARE YOU STUPID! STUPID FACE! YOU'RE GOING TO GET US KILLED! YOU'RE... YOU'RE STUPID!"

Hidenori stood there, swinging his zanbato onto his shoulder as he walked alongside his little brother.
"I don't know. Since we're all reunited in such an underwhelming way, I would consider this a non-canon arc for all of us! You didn't even know we were alive!"
The tall man walked with his three companions, ready to back his brother up at a moment's notice.
