Personality:
"Team" player?: Shigenobu looks out for himself first and foremost, and any possible allies or teammates as a fairly distant second. He will help them if it is necessary, but much prefers to work his own angles when completing tasks. Also has a problem with authority, especially if that authority has proven to be inept. If his orders appear to be "stupid" (in Shigenobu's humble opinion), then they will either blatantly not be followed, or the task will be completed in a manner of Shigenobu's own choosing.
Ambitious: While not necessarily a gloryhound, Shigenobu wants to be noticed for his skills and to be given a position of power commensurate to same. However...
Arrogant: Let's face facts. Shigenobu is kind of a big deal. Currently, however, that is only in his own mind. He has the building blocks to be a true force to be reckoned with, and thus fullfil his self-created prophecy, but only time will tell whether his arrogance and ambition will lead to his downfall or to his meteoric rise to stardom.
Quiet: Sort of. Shigenobu rarely speaks and, even when he does, rarely more than is absolutely necessary. This habit is borne of his early life and training. He prefers to let his facial expressions, body language, and actions do the speaking for him unless he knows a person very well.
Odd: Shige is..... well, he may or may not be completely mentally cogent. During a recent survival scenario, his actions could best be described as "crazed" but he's fairly certain that that was a one-time thing brought on by isolation. Fairly certain.
History: Born to fairly unassuming parents in a small western mountain village, Shigenobu's life would have been completely ordinary and run-of-the-mill in every way, had it not been for the freak genetic circumstance that led to one of his eyes being a different color than the other. Due to his unusual ocular configuration, which coincided with an ancient tale of the "ghost from the mountain." According to this local tale, at some point, something terrible happened to the villages on the mountain, and the mountain kami sent forth a representative to right whatever the wrongs were, and that it would happen again if the villages were ever threatened with similar terrible happenings. A silly tale in Shigenobu's opinion, but it proved to be fortuitous nonetheless.
With his being taken for the next coming of the ghost from the mountain, the village rallied to train the youth in the ways of combat and stealth, spiritualism and magic, religion and politics. He was given the finest of everything from his remote village, and his family was cared for like celebrities among the villagers. Despite his disbelief in the tale itself, when he became old enough to decide for himself about it, Shigenobu quickly learned to measure his words and veil his thoughts in order to keep the good times rolling. While this relatively simple upbringing might have been scoffed at by those from bigger towns or more prestigious backgrounds, it suited Shigenobu well enough.
Before long, thanks to years of training and his own natural abilities, there were none amongst the villagers who could match his in any activity. This served to build his confidence, and afterwards pad his quickly growing ego. The village life was a comfortable one, to be certain, but after a while it got to be boring. Shigenobu decided that it was time that more people knew about just how awesome he really was.
