The Battle of Okehazama had been a huge turning point for the Tokugawa. The Imagawa had fallen, their troops had been scattered and the lands lost, and while Ieyasu Tokugawa had been allied with the Imagawa, he was no fool. He had been able to see that they had been out played on the field of battle. That the Imagawa had lost in the face of the Oda. The smart thing to do had been obvious to him. The safety of his men came first. It did not take much to speak around certain Imagawa retainer to his side, and take as well as his own men. Instead of fighting to the last against the Oda, the Tokugawa had instead allied with him. This came with many advantages, one of which was the reunited sides of the clan. The sides that history had split between the Oda and the Imagawa some years ago. Now the Tokugawa were stronger than had been in years. And even in the current times of war in the rest of the land. Mikawa was safe. With men like Honda, Hanzo, and Ii Naomasa. Along with their Oda allies, there position had never been greater.
It was because of this safety, and stability they currently had. That Ieyasu felt that even he could walk through the lands of Mikawa alone. His generals had insisted that he remain with guards, but he had refused. Instead he had dress informally, like a normal wanderer of the lands. So that he could see the lives of the people through his own eyes. Without them knowing who he was. He sometimes felt disconnect, helping the people under him without ever seeing them, but maybe something would happen the clan leader’s could lend a more direct hand would happen as he passed through one of the small towns of his land.
