Personality: Haruna prefers to be called 'Rin', so I will be referring to her as such from here on. Rin is, in essence, an extrovert. It's hard to tag her with this generalization though, because there are times when she is quite introverted as well, such as when she is alone or whenever she 'just isn't feeling it' that day. She likes to go with the flow, and as such has no strong ties of loyalty at the moment, though she does prefer to stick with the people she likes. In any case though, she generally just does whatever she thinks would be fun, or would help her survive in the war-torn land. Because of this view, she has no strong feelings about the war one way or the other, often heard saying stuff like 'whatever happens happens', and that it's 'meant to be'. She's not the type to interfere with the world, believing that beyond her own survival and personal ties, she has no right to screw with the lives of others. Still, this belief is a notably loose one, as she just as often as not disregards it entirely, being prone to spurs of random heroic spirit or malevolent contempt for another. She's certainly the calm and cool type of person more than 50% of the time, but there are situations in which this is far from the case.
The first, and main, of these situations would be around her friends. Around people she has known closely and long enough to consider them a friend, she feels much more comfortable and lets down her front of being the cool-headed chick. She becomes much more bubbly and energetic, and is a very touchy-feely person. She has a bad habit of groping other girls, often under the guise of 'comparing', but it's mainly just to mess with them. Her belief still stands, however, that people should just go with the flow. Do what you want, and whatever happens will happen, because it was simply meant to.
Another time where she's not so much of a 'cool girl' is when she gets a crush. Rin is far from graceful at these times, often daydreams about the person whenever she's not fighting, and is even more clumsy than normal; this clumsiness, of course, intensifying based on proximity to the object of her desire. She can be described as an airhead at these times, being forgetful and clumsy, not paying much attention, etc., and is also quite shy in regards to the person she likes. She is easily wooed and charmed by even the smallest compliment tossed her way by that person, and if she ever accidentally touches the person or is touched by them, even with something as simple as a handshake, her face turns red as a tomato and she loses all ability to speak coherently.
Over all, she is a very chaotic, but at the same time 'go with the flow' type of girl. She's wild and unpredictable, and as such her personality is not easily defined, but you can safely bet on her just doing whatever it takes to get by, at least until she develops some form of strong feelings about the war or strong ties of loyalty to a people or cause. If she were to do so, she would pursue that cause or the cause of that group with as much passion as she can muster, which is, to say, not that much, but it's still more than she would normally put into something. Despite this lackadaisical, chaotic, and rather selfish personality, though, she is likely to join in battles for the fun of it, and she'll do what she's told to if it comes from someone she recognizes as a superior, but only to the point where she could die, when she will likely abandon her orders. As mentioned earlier, though, she does have random spurs of heroism or evil, depending on uncountable variables, and unpredictable ones as well such as how she's feeling that day.
History: Rin's parents were Indian. They came to Japan on an adventure, more than anything, believing that they should try to go out and explore the world. They were an odd couple, and sickeningly romantic, but they were sweet and brave. When they had Rin, though, that bravery didn't prove strong enough to attempt raising a child, and they left her with an orphanage, which gave her a Japanese name. She grew up with the other kids at the orphanage, having play fights with them, getting into trouble, all sorts of kid stuff, normally on the more boyish end. Once she was 16, though, her orphanage was accidentally burnt to the ground in the middle of a small battle, forcing her out into the world on her own. She learned how to fight and survive, mostly from watching others and reading various texts, and from what little experience she had with play fights at the orphanage, which resulted in her having an oddly playful looking style of combat. She made the conscious decision not to kill unless she absolutely had to at the age of 17, and as such she uses generally non-lethal tactics, or at least attempts to help those she fatally wounds. Many have called her weak for it, but she just doesn't want to be the cause of anyone's grief. She joined the Date faction at age 18, though she really only did so for the protection and the sense of home. She was lonely, you could say, and scared of being on her own as the war got progressively worse. She figured she might as well join up with someone who could help her survive, but these selfish reasons for her joining are why she has not yet developed strong bonds of loyalty to the date. She is not opposed to such loyalties, she just possesses none.
